Reasons why the X-Men are a great analogy for autism:

awitchhasnoname:

– You’re born slightly different to “Normal” people, but it doesn’t always become known until later.

– People keep talking about “curing” you, when you’re not sick, and don’t listen when you tell them you don’t want to change.

– People are nervous about you, and often try to force you into isolated spaces away from “Normal” society.

– Some people are more visible than others, and despite the fact that you’re all valid human beings the less visible ones are the ones that people are willing to accept more readily.

– Your powers/symptoms are only defined as such by society based on how useful they are, not whether or not they’re an inextricable part of YOU.

– Many of us thought we were completely alone, and didn’t learn to love ourselves until we met others like us.
