Watermelon as in “green on the outside, red on the inside”. It started out as a derogatory term for Greens that right-wingers would use, as in the Greens are just using ecological politics as a front for socialism. But since then, many eco-socialists have started using the term with pride, since a truly ecological society, the green, is only possible through democratic management of resources and production for use rather than for profit, AKA socialism, the red.
