Our DM has been warning us about a boss battle we’d be facing this session, as it would be the hardest one we’ve had and they said had a very real possibility of killing at least a few of us. We’ve had run ins with strange necromantic creatures with these orbs that revive them until they’re destroyed with piercing damage. As we were riding back from a festival, we heard rumbling and saw something coming up over a hill.
DM: you all see a huge creature, made of a strange dark metal, and it notices you and there’s a grinding sound. Those of you with darkvision roll perception
Fighter: (rolls a nat 20)
DM: you see in it’s head, just barely noticeable between the plates of metal armor, a solid metal sphere similar to the ones you’ve encountered before
Fighter: we have to destroy that sphere everyone
(initiative is rolled, our gunslinger has first round)
Gunslinger: I’m aiming for the sphere
DM: roll at disadvantage, even with sharpshooter it is a very small shot
Gunslinger: rolls a 21 and a 20 overall.
DM: you shoot the creature, and this giant, hulking metallic beast of a Killing Machine, which is what I had named it, falls over dead.
Everyone: what the fuck?!
DM: guys. if you destroyed the orb it dies. Zaynhila (gunslinger) stood up from the cart, shot the beast, and it fucking died.
Warlock: you are the coolest person I’ve ever met.
