I am indeed both of those things! Although I have been dormant as of late.
Wedges and Shards are a little bit trickier because there are so many converging ideals (a lot of them conflicting) that make “enjoyment” a little difficult to grasp. Something that I would find a little easier would be trying to determine what kind of music I would write for a movie about them. Along with musical examples!
Bant – Soft, harmonious, mostly major keys. Something ambient and minimalist with a heavy use of vocals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZf34B8SImo
Esper – Metallic, mechanical, and precise. Something with heavy use of percussion, but also stately and calculated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVYHhcYWttY
Grixis – Dissonant, ugly, and unsettling. Something that doesn’t quite sit well. Think of German Expressionism. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-pVz2LTakM
Jund – Tribal and vicious. Primal and angry sounding. https://youtu.be/rP42C-4zL3w?t=209
Naya – Open and airy and with a sense of freedom. People don’t call it happy Jund for nothing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4e4hnGEgpw
Jeskai – Meditative and pensive, showing restraint and discipline, yet passion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZqpXIa6HQM
Sultai – A lot of percussion. In fact, almost entirely percussion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOcH6nFjv7w
Mardu – Angry, aggressive, wild and free. Almost like a mix of Jund of Naya. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05XBQv0dUkA
Temur – Folk music and tribal sounding. Soft and calming, but with a reverence that shows the religious and shamanic aspect of the tribe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7E4iAuw70cQ
Abzan – Another clan that I mostly would associate with percussion. Maybe I just have percussion on the brain. They’re the most organized army of the clans of Tarkir so probably something more stately. https://youtu.be/9opcAg3dJEc?t=1890
That’s all I got! I spent way too much time on this but I hope this paints an evocative picture!
