Like, previously you gave us the option to filter adult content, but it depended on people actually marking the content themselves.

How about you just let us do that again, but you can also keep your bots that auto-mark things, and we just won’t see those things if we opt-in to filter the content we see. If they’re the right kind of bot they’ll get better and better at recognizing genuine adult material, and they’ll stop censoring our dog’s noses and food posts.

If you’ve got advertisers concerned about thirteen year old kids switching off the filter and seeing the bobblies, you could point out to them that they’re already able to do that in any google search. It’s an irrelevant complaint.

Or, you can get advertisers who are cool with adult content. I’m pretty sure a lot of adult websites are still ad-supported and in fact they make even more money than tumblr allegedly does.

This is all REALLY simple stuff. It’s really easy to do what you’re basically trying to do without killing your community or harming artists.
