Seriously fuck this country right now.

Everyone of you in the US needs to check you’re still registered this weekend and register if you aren’t. And you need to go out and vote. And before any of you even get the thought of ‘it doesn’t even matter’ in your head FUCK THAT.

FUCKING TEXAS has a chance of going blue this election. Let’s make that happen. Get out there and vote and make sure this weekend you can.

remember: texas does NOT let you register to vote online. go to your local town center and register in person. check out this link to see the rules for how to vote in every state in 2018.

A longer version of this post with more voting resources can be found here.

This will be the most consequential election of our lifetime, and yet only 28% of young people age 18-29 say they will certainly vote in the midterms. That number is unacceptable, especially given we have the most to lose, our future and every social issue you claim to care about is at stake.

I have read a LOT of commentary about the Kavanaugh situation and this is, by far, the best thread yet imo.

Should prove very helpful in rebutting lots of assholes out there.

This hits on something I’ve been saying for a while. Rape and sexual assault are rarely…neat. You make mistakes in judgment that you wish you could take back. You can’t remember certain things, you remember things out of order and can be deeply traumatised by things that other people consider not a big deal because no…penetration happened.

If you were going to lie about a rape why would you have holes in your story? Why would you tell a story you know is easy for people to dismiss?

Dr Ford, if she is lying, has done remarkable research on what time does to your memory and on trauma, not just on the kind of level you need to treat a patient and give them compassion, but the kind of story that is so real it resonates with a lot of other people’s lived experiences.

So she created a story with holes, knowing she didn’t have enough evidence to convince rape apologists, mentioned it in therapy years ago and has come forward to testify because….reasons, apparently.

I’m not saying people with “neat” stories are lying, but if you wanted to lie to destroy someone why would you create a story that you know will have people speaking about the grey areas? Why would you give them the wiggle room?

Why would you come forward, these years later when you have a successful career and tell a lie that you know will be hard to swallow and face all this scrutiny?

Everyone wants to say it’s politically motivated and yeah, it is…in the sense that she doesn’t want her attacker to be on the Supreme Court. But aside from that? I can’t see the argument, and the people most often making that argument rarely offer answers to these questions and also mostly seem to have never faced sexual assault themselves.
