A Petrifying Thought

In some stories, if a gorgon’s gaze turns someone to stone, it’s fatal. Instant death on sight.

But in some stories, there’s a way to undo the effect and turn the victim back into their normal, flesh and blood self.

And honestly, it’s the second scenario that’s more terrifying to me. I mean, if it can be reversed, that means you didn’t die. You don’t go to heaven. You don’t go anywhere. There is no afterlife for you.

You either wait around for someone to come rescue you, or you just wait around forever.
